What a week!
Thank goodness we finally made it to Friday! Which got started off to a great surprise of having someone find Javyn's bike that was stolen at the beginning of July! I have it here, and with a bit of clean up and some air in the tire, it will be as good as new. What a wonderful thing! & the man doesn't usually buy the paper, but happened to pick one of the three days we ran the ad to get one. Amazing how things work at times, eh? &, actually, the bike had been waiting in some weeds in the alley for most of the time it had been missing. Or at least as far as he could remember having first seen it.
I have some other things to take care of today before I 'call it a week' - but hoping to have it all done (or close enough to just call it done - ha!) by the time Hubster gets home this afternoon. On top of my list is a chocolate chip cheesecake with homemade caramel sauce which Javyn ordered as his Birthday cake. . . also need to wrap his presents. That's right, Javyn. I said presentS! I think some of his friends will be coming over this evening so should be a good time. Come join us!
Jori called throughout the week - it's fun to talk to her while she's walking to or from class, work or her apartment. Her classes are going well enough, so far, and she's been thinking about shaking things up a bit - scholastic wise, anyway. Work is good. . . plenty of hours with still plenty of time for homework and 'socializing.'
University of Kansas has instituted a Swine Flu policy. . . basically: feel ill? Stay home. I'm sure some of you may have seen them mentioned on the news in regard to the number of 'cases' on campus in comparison to other campuses in the state. Jori brought up an excellent point in the fact that KU opened sooner than most campuses. . . it's very possibly just a matter of time before the flu spreads through the other campuses. Just icky stuff and too bad the vaccines aren't really going to be able to get out in time and do too much good.
Troy left for Oklahoma City Sunday morning and will finally be coming home this afternoon. Why is work seems to overtake life at times?? I gain more and more respect for single parents every time he is gone for these week-long meetings. . . and, as you know, he's gone quite a bit. That's a LOT of respect!
Spent my Monday chasing (creating?) the paper trail involved with buying property. As soon as everything is done, we'll be one of Chanute's newest landlords. Bought the house directly behind ours. Will rent for awhile - should pay for itself. . . Will be nice to control the neighbors - if that's truly possible, ha!
Tuesday was Javyn's Birthday. Poor kid - Congress is being slower than usual (& that is VERY slow. . . )about passing the bill that would make August 25 a National holiday. Working on it though. In the meantime, Javyn had a normal day at school, then we traveled the hour to Pittsburg and saw GI Joe on the big screen (pretty cool!) and ate Mexican. Oh yeah, even stopped for Starbucks for the drive home. Nope. . . no cake or presents for the guy. . . that comes TOMORROW! I did blow up balloons and hang up the Happy Birthday 'banner' in the dining room though.
Wednesday. . . .ah Wednesday. Let's see. Another paper-chasing, computer-fighting, dirt-attacking day for me. Tell me, how does a house get so dirty when there are only two people here and I clean something pretty much everyday? I just don't get it. Javyn had band pictures in the evening - complete with uniform and instrument. Took much longer than anticipated. I took the dogs for a romp and he still wasn't finished. . . he even had some mowing to do once he did get home. Got the backyard done just as it was getting too dark to see. Anyone ever have a push mower with a headlight? Thinking about it. . . .
Yesterday was another crazy day In The Life. More rain predicted. . . none fell. good enough for me. The nasty storms of the week alwasy came close - but never quite got us. Unusual. Ask Troy when the worst of storms hit Chanute. Typically, they occur when he's not here. Honestly. Glad they missed this week, and especially yesterday. Javyn needed to go mow his customer's yard and finish up on ours. Nice.
Tomorrow is the Horizon Hospice Charity Shoot at the Elks Lake just north of town. . . so you know where we'll be! It's always a lot of fun with good food, lots of great people, and let's not forget the shooting sports. . . we look forward to it every year. The Elks are able to make a large contribution to the local hospice through this event, so it's a definite win-win-win kind of event. I LOVE those, don't you?
Hope you had a GRAND week and are going to do some fun (& relaxing) things this weekend. Drop me a line and tell me what you're up to - would LOVE to hear from you;-)
