Fall here in Southeast Kansas is truly gorgeous. . . now you know my favorite season is Spring and Summer, but when Autumn is as gentle as ours has been this year, well. . . it's a hard decision!
Kids have just finished with mid-terms and they're in the final stretch of their semesters. Javyn's teachers had nothing but positive reports at the parent-teacher conferences last week. He's got quite the line up of classes - one's even a college-level class (European History to boot) that's really pushing him hard. But what a trouper, he's doing awesome!
He's pretty well finished with his yard work jobs for the season and has no trouble finding other things to keep him busy - like movies and video games:-) Bowling started a few weeks ago. It always takes a few times to get back into the swing (pun intended) of things and we're trying to decide if he needs to get his ball redrilled. Believe it or not - he's grown since we had it drilled nine months ago. He's well over the 6' mark now. Yes. Troy and I have to look up to him. Serious discussions are now conducted sitting down - ha! Anyway, he's also on the travel bowling league, but was busy wild boar hunting with Hubster earlier this month, so missed the first one - we'll make it next month. Oh, wait. . . it may be the pheasant opener!
He's also experiencing the joy of what a money-pit vehicles can be. Oh man! And are we learning it as well. . . what started out as a great bargain has just been one thing after another. Darn thing just can't hold it's fluids. But it sure looks pretty, eh? Well. . . don't look too close at the hail dents or where somebody crunched in the hood. . .
And yes. I did say wild boar hunting with Hubster. They went on a great adventure with Tyson and Kenn that involved heavy guns, lots of waiting, a few shots, and two wild boars.
Tyson was the hero of the trip and the only successful shot. Yup. He saved the honor of the entire group by shooting both boars. And now we all have some wonderful home-made sausage to enjoy. We made ours up with some Hot-Italian seasoning and it is some kind of T-A-S-T-Y!
We finally did it. We've been lightly discussing getting a different boat for a few months, but just never acted on it. And then a great opportunity presented itself. Our boat was primarily a fishing boat and we wanted to go more of a 'social' angle. After much perusing of Craigslist (just the mere mention of this global classified ad site makes me sing 'It's A Small World' in my head) we found one that 'tripped our trigger.' And, as an added bonus, the owner was interested in purchasing our boat! Talk about making things simple.
We made the trek deep into the Ozarks. . . well, okay, not *that* deep - but definitely deep enough. . . to get good and lost. . . and have to stop and ask for directions a few times. We were headed to Pomme de Terre Lake a couple hours from us and was it ever gorgeous. It's a simply outstandingly beautiful lake. There are 'villages' located around this area of dammed up rivers, and so many trees - just a prime example of what one imagines when one thinks of a lake in the Ozarks.
Anyway, I digress. After much discussion and budget analysis we made the leap. Sadly, I don't have any pics of our Glastron Boat and she's off getting winterized as I type this. Perhaps we'll all climb in it for a Christmas portrait. . . I wouldn't hold my breath on that, if I were you. Anyway, she's all white and dark green and shiny and nice - mostly like the one in this pic:
Hubster has christened her Clearly Stoly with golden letters on the back. Niiice.
This past weekend found us, and some friends, at Table Rock Lake with the hopes of cruising around and enjoying the fall foliage in our new-to-us-boat. . . We planned for it to be chilly, especially on the water, but a little wine, some woolie socks, and a blanket or two, we thought, would make the time extra special. Well. . . .things didn't quite work out as planned. We never did make it ON the water and it was just about anything BUT chilly. We did, however, enjoy the Fall Foliage (and some time at Eureka Springs) and look forward to returning again very soon!
Jori's been busy with school and work. . . Mid-terms are always a stressful time, but it sounds as though she squeaked on by and is on the downward slope towards finals. She's also gearing up to do some serious Christmas decorating at the Winfield House where she works. It's such a wonderful store run by the most delightful of familes. Hubster and I had supper with her earlier this week. . . that'll be the last time we see her until Thanksgiving. Though, you never know, I'm betting I could sneak away one day and kidnap her for awhile - hehehehe!
We know bird season is right around the corner - Jaz is full of all kinds of nervous energy and back to his shoe-chewing (don't leave shoes on the back porch!). Zayda seems rather oblivious to the upcoming hunting season, which is just as well as she won't be going out to do any. . . a bird-shy dog just doesn't work out when one is hunting birds. . . you know? We've had them out at the local Elks Lake chasing 'dummy launches' - they are a couple of pretty strong swimmers!
The kitties are thankful for the electric blanket on the bed. So much so that they nearly push me out of bed finding a warm spot - hahaha! Fritzie is pretty good at finding the warm sunspots around the house. . .
I've been keeping myself very busy with building a new website for Steve's new gun business, EV Shootables, keeping up with my own jewelry making business (my vintage glass button rings have become SO amazingly popular!),
and the normal things that make up my life. Of course, you know me, I fill my time with a lot of things, then add just a few more so my world is overflowing. To keep up with me (sort of) on a day to day (in a round about way) you'll have to check out my 'ksyardbird' blog. It goes hand in hand with my jewelry business and has recipes, decorating ideas, general ramblings, and sneak peeks at new jewelry treasures.
Life is grand here. . . we've got our ups and downs (I'm in the midst of a horrid head cold that has erased my voice and Troy's on the upswing with one) - but it always seems to even out in the end. Life is Good.
Drop us a line, jingle our phone, or stop on by - we'd love to hear what's going on in your world!
